     Romania...the word alone can stir visions of medieval castles, gypsies and quaint historic villages. The essence of Romania is best described as natural and cultural. This country is steeped in magnificence, ranging from the arts, the history to the natural wondrous beauty found all over the country.      The Romanian people have a spectacular imagination and a deep sense of spirituality that is found in everything they do, the artwork, the architecture of the buildings, festivals, music, food and crafts. Romania is a very colorful country that takes pride in their people and their heritage. The peasant culture is still prevalent here, and they still hold close the medieval ways no longer found in the modern world.
     There is much to explore and see in Romania, from the painted monasteries in Bucovina, to the Transylvanian medieval towns that are still intact, to the capitol city of Bucharest.
     The grandeur of the Carpathian Mountains are a wondrous sight to behold, with their rolling hills and breathtaking snowcapped mountain peaks. Nestled within those mountains are enchanting castles, rural villages, and historic churches, where time has a tendency to move at a surreal pace.

Here is some tidbits about this beautiful country. Romania rests on the Black Sea coast of southeast Europe and is only about 92,000 square miles, with the country being divided into 3 physical and historical sections. Moldavia is in the northeast, Wallachia in the south and the famed Transylvania located in the center of the country.
    Romania is the 9th largest country of the European Union, and is home to about 21.9 million people, ranging from the modern to the gyspy folk who still embrace the medieval ways of old Europe. The capitol is Bucharest with about 1,853,000 people residing there today. The latitude and longitude of Romania is 46' 00'N &; 25' 00' E. The main languages spoken there are Romanian, Hungarian and German. The ethnic structure consists of 89.5% Romanians, 6.6% Hungarians, 2.5% Roma (also known as gypsies). Romania employs the currency of the Romanian Leu (RON), which is equivalent to about $0.34 in U.S dollars. One U.S dollar ($1.00) can be exchanged for 2.9 Romanian lei, of which can be exchanged in any U.S.A bank or Romanian banks.
